Annual Update: Year 2010 – A look ahead at the mobile web and inbound marketing

Hard to believe that a year has come and gone without us posting an update to the product section of our blog. Contrary to the likely perception, this does not mean we haven’t been busy with product. On the contrary, we have some exciting things to share.

To begin, earlier this year we rolled out a new demo of our mobile-friendly website solution known as Smart Sites. A smart site is a WP site with the AC Smart Site theme, a theme that simplifies the view of your product or business with a minimalistic design that is compatible across multiple web browsing platforms. It was derived from the AC Merchant Theme which was created for use on merchant sites at AutoConverse.com.

The theme design is ideal for tablets such as iPad or Samsung Galaxy. It is also fresh on smart phones such as iPhone and Droid.

Smart sites are also functional and aesthetic on a desktop or laptop, no matter what browser resolution. You can demo the smart site in action by texting AUTOBURST to 41513 from your phone. You will be sent a link to our demo smart site.

The Mobile Factor

Why is this important? Because connecting and communicating with customers is now a real-time ordeal that must be in synch across multiple platforms at any given time. People and customers are going from PC to laptop, to mobile, to car, etc., often consuming the same information across more than one platform. Businesses ability to cater to this will have a growing impact on the customer experience in years to come.

We are well poised for this future with the early adoption of this Smart Site technology. It makes for a terrific compliment something else that will be new for us this coming year…the CMP Mobile theme.

The new CMP theme is a skin that can be used to create a mobile-specific site for any product or business. Inspired by the .mobi system that arose early in the mobile computing space, the CMP theme is a WordPress theme designed to give users a web-based interface that is similar in design and function to the famous iPhone app view of icons displayed neatly in 3 columns on your phone, giving you one-click access to everything available on the site.

We will be offering a demo soon of this new product.

Change in Supply and Demand

So while 2010 proved another difficult year for many small businesses, those who have been able to weather the epic storm could be in high demand soon as the economy improves and small businesses obtain access to more capital. The market has been saturated in recent years with Internet marketing specialists and while the number of new people and businesses entering this space compared to the number of those exiting this space might cancel each other out, more and more businesses are expected to start embracing a lot of the inbound marketing practices that are proving to be highly effective for some agencies.

It goes without saying that anytime demand increases and supply decreases, suppliers may finally get to earn their keep soon.

Famous Quote

I heard once that…“[T]he more you engage with customers the clearer things become and the easier it is to determine what you should be doing”. I don’t remember where I came across this, but it has stuck with me for a long time.

So this year, we will be making a point to be more diligent with our postings here about product updates. If you would like to receive these updates, plus information about the types of things we do so you can learn or at least understand, then subscribe to the site to receive an email alert each time we publish something new to the site. This could be as often as once or twice a week but more likely once or twice month. Subscribing is free and you may cancel your subscription at any time.

Thanks and let’s make 2011 a spectacular year!

SEO Tips for YouTube Video Marketing

An effective strategy for any internet marketing company, video marketing is becoming very popular, and for good reason.  YouTube is currently the second largest Search Engine on the internet (behind Google) and is the #3 website in the world.  With millions of visitors a day, it’s rife with marketing possibilities, allowing companies to advertise their businesses and gain clients through video marketing.  The question is: How do you attract visitors to you video?

YouTube is unable to scan your video for keywords; according to YouTube’s blog, ““Our algorithms are good, but they can only read, they can’t watch your videos.  So in order to properly classify your video and index it for search, we need your help.”  That being said, the most effective way to attract visitors is to create keyword-specific META information (Title, description, keywords).

Much like optimizing a website Title, YouTube video titles should include frequently-searched phrases yet be specific enough to describe your video.  To find these keyword phrases, try YouTube’s keyword finder, with looks suspiciously like Google’s keyword finder.  This similarity is not surprising, because YouTube utilizes Google’s algorithm.

Descriptions may be as long as 5000 characters; however, when optimizing this you should keep in mind that only the first 120 characters, give or take a few, show up in Google snippets (descriptions on Search Engine Results Pages).  So it’s important to fit as many keywords as possible in the first 120 characters, without keyword stuffing.

While Google has admitted they do not use META keyword data to determine results, it’s still a good idea to include targeted keyword phrases, as YouTube and other search engines may still use the keywords META.

All that being said, the best thing you can do to draw traffic to your video is to create a good video.  A good video and keyword-targetted META information can cause a traffic explosion.

Brightcove Publishes, Distributes and Monetizes web video for iPad and other Apple devices

iPhone Blue CubeLast month Brighcove announced Brightcove Experience for HTML5, a framework for publishing and delivering high quality, interactive and advertising-supported Web video experiences for HTML5-compatible devices.

The new solution enables you to easily expand the reach of your online video initiatives to popular consumer devices including the Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

The Brightcove Experience for HTML5 provides support for intelligent device detection, playlist rendering, and playback of H.264 encoded video content. Over the course of this year, Brightcove will expand the Brightcove Experience for HTML5 to include full support for customization and branding of the player environment, advertising, analytics, social sharing, and other capabilities currently found in Brightcove experience solutions for other platforms.

The Brightcove Experience for HTML5 is provided at no charge to customers with subscriptions to Brightcove Professional, Enterprise, and Express $499 editions. An early version of the automatic device detection and HTML5 player template are available in the Brightcove Developer Center.

As Brightcove customers, we are pleased with this announcement for a couple reasons.

  1. It demonstrates Brightcove’s commitment to innovation, something which played a big part in our decision recently to Brightcove’s video hosting & streaming platform.
  2. It gives credence to the direction Apple is headed on the web by abandoning Flash and counting on web developers and software makers to adapt.

Brightcove is a Web-based platform that makes it easy to deliver professional-quality video experiences through your website. Unlike free video sharing sites, Brightcove gives you complete control over the video experience you put on your site. Organizations of all sizes choose Brightcove for its ease of use and its power to scale from the simplest project to the most complex

Automotive workshop scheduled with ADAGP for Sept. 28

On Wednesday September 10, 2008, Scott Rainville (Tell All Video) and Ryan Gerardi (AutoConversion) are speaking at a seminar in Southeastern Pennsylvania with ADAGP, the Automobile Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia. The seminar is titled, “The 32% Factor – Utilizing Blogs, Email, SEO, Video and Social Media to Quality Leads and Develop a Customer Audience”, the concept inspired by information released in a study last year by Cobalt, Polk, and Yahoo!.

In the seminar, Gerardi and Rainville will be discussing this “32%  Factor” and leading an exercise for dealer attendees to experience hands-on participation in preparing an Email Marketing campaign that utilizes their Blog, SEO, and Video Marketing techniques.

“There is an abundance of theoretical information and ideas made available to Car Dealers in the form of newsletters, blogs, and seminars, but a deficiency in applicable information dealers can take back to their dealership and apply. Our goal with this seminar is to give attendees a simple and useful technique they can remember and easily apply in their jobs at the dealership,” states Gerardi, Founder/CEO of AutoConversion.

Space is limited but this seminar is open to ADAGP Member and Non-member dealers. See registration page for pricing and sign-up information.
